The Story of Tom & Eva Loch Ard the Shipwreck Coast

The ship was named after Loch Ard in Scotland, a loch west of Aberfoyle and east of Loch Lomond. It means "high lake" in Scottish Gaelic. She gave her name to Loch Ard Gorge on the Shipwreck Coast. Maiden voyage. Loch Ard was twice dismasted on her maiden voyage from Glasgow to Melbourne. The first dismasting was in December 1873, only days.. Loch Ard Gorge is an idyllic cove created by the destructive power of the waves of the Shipwreck Coast. Here, vast sandstone cliffs plunge straight into the tear shaped bay, so spectacular it's hard to believe tragedy once struck here. In 1878 a ship called Loch Ard set sail from Liverpool bound for Melbourne, its passengers leaving Europe.
